“The child holds the key to unlock the garden of discovery to which the world has shut the door”

OUR PROGRAM:

Cornerstone Montessori Children's House offers an individualized program that “follows the child”. Our Montessori preschool was established in 1997 to provide a natural and stimulating learning environment guided by the educational philosophy of Maria Montessori. She developed many special materials that help children teach themselves in a very concrete, hands-on manner. They are specially designed to hold the interest of children between the ages of 3 and 5. The Montessori teacher uses these materials to present engaging lessons at the appropriate time to satisfy the unique developmental needs of each child.

Basics of Montessori

  • Development of self-esteem, independence, and inner-discipline
  • Sensorial skills
  • Practical living skills
  • Socialization
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Initiation of math skills
  • Experiences in art, music, science and gardening

Language - Children enthusiastically travel the road from beginning vocabulary to reading and writing with our emphasis on phonics and the fundamentals of language.

Math - Math lessons utilize colorful hands-on materials that isolate each concept from concrete fundamentals to abstract reasoning.

Sensorial - Children explore their environment through lessons that develop and refine all their senses. These lessons help them to order and classify their sensory impressions of the physical world. Each sensorial lesson isolates one quality, such as size, volume, width, length, touch, temperature, weight, color, shape or sound. The sensorial curriculum provides the early foundation for subjects such as botany, geography, geometry and music.

Practical Life - Children delight in exercises of daily living such as polishing silver, washing clothes, pouring tea, and preparing food. Learning to care for themselves and for their environment helps them gain control and coordination through movement. It contributes greatly to their positive self image as they gain independence through mastery of real life skills.

Additional Benefits of Our Program

We believe in treating the child as a whole person – mind, body, and spirit. We enhance our traditional Montessori curriculum with materials developed by a Biblical scholar and a Montessori teacher in 1954. They use the same hands-on Montessori method of exploration. The message of God’s love is proclaimed and the children are invited to respond. They also enjoy singing and hearing stories that remind them not only of God's love for them, but also how they can share their love and compassion with others. We incorporate the Musikgarten curriculum into our school day. The children are exposed to a rich music experience that combines songs, dancing, creative movement, and rhythm instruments. These activities also benefit their motor and language development. Musikgarten was co-developed by a Montessori teacher and the founder of Kindermusik.
